Turbo Class BEFORE I found out I was Pregnant!

Talk about the journey of a lifetime…Being Prego AND Working Out!! Everyone asks me, HOW am I doing it??

Honestly, its Flippin Hard!!! But for me Fitness is a lifestyle, its not a choice but a decision I make everyday to do something good for my body.  I love to workout! I love the adrenaline rush from high intensity workouts and the feeling afterwards of the endorphin high…..BUT its a totally different feeling when you are PREGO!!  Ugh!! No high intensity training, jumping, pushing yourself to the next level….nope its all about maintaining at this point.

So YES you must speak to your doctor first on what you CAN and CANNOT DO…but they are most likely going to say, whatever you HAVE BEEN doing, continue to do it!!! So all the more reason to get yourself in the BEST PHYSICAL CONDITION possible BEFORE you are pregnant so you can continue that during the pregnancy!!

Last year I lost 20lbs and was at my lowest weight EVER!!  Now I’m thankful because it has helped me not gain as much weight during pregnancy!  I have been teaching Turbo Kick for 7 years so my body is used to it…therefore I have been able to continue to teach because my cardio and body are conditioned for it.  So I had to make a lot of “adjustments, modifications and in some cases Learn How to Workout” all over again…but I do it because its good for me, for the baby and because THIS IS THE LIFESTYLE I choose to live!! Fitness 🙂

1st Trimester Workouts – Taught Turbo Kick & Hip Hop Hustle plus P90X at home

2nd Trimester – Continued to teach Turbo & Hustle and did Turbo Jam at home (Turbo Jam is slower than Turbo Kick/Turbo Fire)

3rd Trimester – I plan to teach to 34 weeks!!! My cardio is great but I literally just feel the pressure and its uncomfortable…so sad to give my classes up but I will be back in no time!

I’m also working with a Personal Trainer the next 2 months on resistance training and flexibility!

So bottom line…talk to your doctor first!  I choose a newer/modern OBGYN who understands What I Do and really allows me to continue being ME while taking care of the baby!

Some days you are so tired you can’t get off the couch…that’s ok!! But the other days…just move!!! Even if that’s taking a walk or modifying your favorite workout!

How to Memorize a Turbo Kick Round

Once you receive your Brand NEW Turbo Kick Round in the mail, where do you event START to begin to learn the choreography? This is one of the questions Turbo Kick Instructors ask me daily!!!  Well…I believe it is different for everyone and you have to find YOUR WAY of learning it, but I’m going to share with you HOW I LEARN and MEMORIZE the Round in less than 2 days!!!  I just received Round 50 yesterday and I am going to teach it TONIGHT!!!  Now remember I have been teaching Turbo Kick for 8 years!!!! So it takes time to learn them this fast….but you will!! BE PERSISTENT!!!

Step 1: Listen to the CD in my car to get familiar with the music!  (Remember the music on the dvd is DIFFERENT then the CD due to licensing fees)

Step 2: Watch the PREVIEW SECTION – I have a blank notebook, pen and choreography liner notes in front of me.  I just WATCH and WRITE out the CHOREOGRAPHY in my own words…I do NOT do the workout at this point.  Writing it out helps you memorize it and makes it easier to learn because you understand your own “terminology”

Step 3: Watch the WORKOUT – I watch the workout section and visually match it up to my notes to make sure I understand what I wrote!  I mainly study the BASIC LAYERS (3-4 moves in a song) and write the advanced layers off to the side (If I plan to teach them in later weeks…this is up to you and the level of your class)

Step 4: DO THE WORKOUT!!! So this is usually the next day for me.  I’ve had to time to let the choreography sync in my head, now I do the workout straight through from warm – up to finale with the DVD

Step 5: PUT THE CD IN and DO THE CHOREOGRAPHY from my own NOTES!!!!  I do one section at a time to memorize it and MATCH it to the music!  And I personally learn the TURBO SECTION LAST!!!!  It’s usually the hardest part for me to memorize and I dont want it to slow me down, so I learn everything else 1st then go back to it!!!

PRACTICE – PRACTICE – PRACTICE!!!!  AT this point, I pretty much know it now I just need to MEMORIZE IT!! So I continue to practice the Chor to the CD, listen to the CD in the car and match the moves and then practice in the mirror without notes right before class!!!!

EXTRA TIPS – Set a GOAL DATE!!!! When I receive the Round I tell myself, I’m teaching this on _______.  That holds me accountable to learn it faster!!!  Also, keep your notes with you and if you need to look at them, that’s ok!!! We all forget the material the first few times…the main thing is to keep YOUR EYES on you students and have FUN!!!

My Top 3 Takeaways from Chalene Johnson’s 30 Day PUSH!

“30 Days to Turbocharged Habits, a Bangin Body & the Life you Deserve!!” And it DELIVERS!!  First I want to say that I have been following her trainings for years and even though I had picked up bits and pieces here and there, I knew once I put it all TOGETHER it would be POWERFUL!!  Everyone will TAKE AWAY different things because we are all LOOKING for different things….here were my BIG A HA MOMENTS…

 

1. DISCIPLINE – Sticking with the 30 day program forced me into NEW HABITS…Discipline!!  We all have the POWER to Achieve Every GOAL we set for ourselves…but most of us lack the DISCIPLINE to do the Daily Baby Steps to get there.  Learning to look at a BIGGER GOAL and FORCING myself to learn a new habit, therefore DISCIPLINING myself was the missing link.  Successful People are Disciplined to Do What Most Others won’t….

2. ORGANIZATION: Ahhh I run the other way when I hear this word!!  Details?? Me?? Oh No!!   I see the Big Picture but the details make me want to jump on to the next task on my list.  I’ve always made a To Do List but it was on several pieces of paper…post it notes, notebooks and notebooks and notebooks, cell phone apps YOU NAME IT!!!  Why couldn’t I find ONE that worked?  After learning her simple system of breaking down the tasks on your To Do List to TODAY, THIS WEEK & SOMEDAY – I found an app that I fell in LOVE with GET IT DONE APP 

It follows the same folders, syncs to my phone and I am able to do my To Do List on my computer…which is WHAT Works For ME!!!  It’s not just creating a To Do List, most people do that….its Creating a To Do List with the TASKS that are going to move you towards your Push Goal!!

3. PUSH GOAL / THINKING BIG – One of her signature ideas in the book is teaching you how to set Goals but specifically a PUSH Goal.  Basically a Yearly BIG Goal then when accomplished will allow all of your other goals to fall into place as ACCOMPLISHED!!  She has you write out 10 Goals for the year and IDENTIFY which one will be your Push Goal.  NOW….I have done the 10 Goals before, specifically in 2006 when I first became a Presenter for PBP.  It worked for me then when I had no idea what I was doing, haha!! This time around I added the PUSH GOAL – which was still EASY….but now came the HARD PART…..Reverse Engineering your Push Goal!!!!  Again, I ve heard her talk about this before, show it on videos and I always RAN to the next task….thinking oh no way!! NO WAY can I do that…really I was telling myself that I wasn’t willing to DISCIPLINE myself to do that!!  What is Reverse Engineering – in simple terms….breaking down your Push Goal to EVERY SINGLE TINY STEP you must take to achieve it!! And your goal is to come up with a huge, LONG list of mini tasks…the more the better!! Ahhhhh  Well Guess What….I did it!! I MADE MYSELF DO IT!!  I went into the dining room, posted the GIANT Poster Size Post It notes on the wall and started writing for probably a good 30 minutes NON STOP!!!  Once I was done I thought I was going to feel overwhelmed and think…HOW in the world am I ever going to do all of this????  But just the opposite happened…..I felt RELIEF!!  I felt a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders because I just spilled every idea, thought, to do list task on paper…every single one of them.  I HAD A PLAN…ON PAPER!!!  A Plan to Achieve the Biggest Goal of my Personal Career, one that will Change my Family’s Life!!!

Chalene teaches you the HABITS to Success whether Fitness, Nutrition, Relationships or Business!!  It is a Life Changing Book!  She is REAL, down to earth and you will feel like you are talking to your Best Friend when she takes you through the journey.  Can you Discipline yourself to PUSH for 30 days?? I’m glad I did!! It wasn’t easy, but it was 100% worth it!! Now I’m PUSHING you to do the same!!
