How to Memorize a Turbo Kick Round

Once you receive your Brand NEW Turbo Kick Round in the mail, where do you event START to begin to learn the choreography? This is one of the questions Turbo Kick Instructors ask me daily!!!¬† Well…I believe it is different for everyone and you have to find YOUR WAY of learning it, but I’m going to share with you HOW I LEARN and MEMORIZE the Round in less than 2 days!!!¬† I just received Round 50 yesterday and I am going to teach it TONIGHT!!!¬† Now remember I have been teaching Turbo Kick for 8 years!!!! So it takes time to learn them this fast….but you will!! BE PERSISTENT!!!

Step 1: Listen to the CD in my car to get familiar with the music!  (Remember the music on the dvd is DIFFERENT then the CD due to licensing fees)

Step 2: Watch the PREVIEW SECTION – I have a blank notebook, pen and choreography liner notes in front of me.¬† I just WATCH and WRITE out the CHOREOGRAPHY in my own words…I do NOT do the workout at this point.¬† Writing it out helps you memorize it and makes it easier to learn because you understand your own “terminology”

Step 3: Watch the WORKOUT – I watch the workout section and visually match it up to my notes to make sure I understand what I wrote!¬† I mainly study the BASIC LAYERS (3-4 moves in a song) and write the advanced layers off to the side (If I plan to teach them in later weeks…this is up to you and the level of your class)

Step 4: DO THE WORKOUT!!! So this is usually the next day for me.¬† I’ve had to time to let the choreography sync in my head, now I do the workout straight through from warm – up to finale with the DVD

Step 5: PUT THE CD IN and DO THE CHOREOGRAPHY from my own NOTES!!!!¬† I do one section at a time to memorize it and MATCH it to the music!¬† And I personally learn the TURBO SECTION LAST!!!!¬† It’s usually the hardest part for me to memorize and I dont want it to slow me down, so I learn everything else 1st then go back to it!!!

PRACTICE РPRACTICE РPRACTICE!!!!  AT this point, I pretty much know it now I just need to MEMORIZE IT!! So I continue to practice the Chor to the CD, listen to the CD in the car and match the moves and then practice in the mirror without notes right before class!!!!

EXTRA TIPS – Set a GOAL DATE!!!! When I receive the Round I tell myself, I’m teaching this on _______.¬† That holds me accountable to learn it faster!!!¬† Also, keep your notes with you and if you need to look at them, that’s ok!!! We all forget the material the first few times…the main thing is to keep YOUR EYES on you students and have FUN!!!

“30 Days to Turbocharged Habits, a Bangin Body & the Life you Deserve!!” And it DELIVERS!!¬† First I want to say that I have been following her trainings for years and even though I had picked up bits and pieces here and there, I knew once I put it all TOGETHER it would be POWERFUL!!¬† Everyone will TAKE AWAY different things because we are all LOOKING for different things….here were my BIG A HA MOMENTS…

 

1. DISCIPLINE – Sticking with the 30 day program forced me into NEW HABITS…Discipline!!¬† We all have the POWER to Achieve Every GOAL we set for ourselves…but most of us lack the DISCIPLINE to do the Daily Baby Steps to get there.¬† Learning to look at a BIGGER GOAL and FORCING myself to learn a new habit, therefore DISCIPLINING myself was the missing link.¬† Successful People are Disciplined to Do What Most Others won’t….

2. ORGANIZATION: Ahhh I run the other way when I hear this word!!¬† Details?? Me?? Oh No!! ¬† I see the Big Picture but the details make me want to jump on to the next task on my list.¬† I’ve always made a To Do List but it was on several pieces of paper…post it notes, notebooks and notebooks and notebooks, cell phone apps YOU NAME IT!!!¬† Why couldn’t I find ONE that worked?¬† After learning her simple system of breaking down the tasks on your To Do List to TODAY, THIS WEEK & SOMEDAY – I found an app that I fell in LOVE with GET IT DONE APP¬†

It follows the same folders, syncs to my phone and I am able to do my To Do List on my computer…which is WHAT Works For ME!!!¬† It’s not just creating a To Do List, most people do that….its Creating a To Do List with the TASKS that are going to move you towards your Push Goal!!

3. PUSH GOAL / THINKING BIG – One of her signature ideas in the book is teaching you how to set Goals but specifically a PUSH Goal.¬† Basically a Yearly BIG Goal then when accomplished will allow all of your other goals to fall into place as ACCOMPLISHED!!¬† She has you write out 10 Goals for the year and IDENTIFY which one will be your Push Goal.¬† NOW….I have done the 10 Goals before, specifically in 2006 when I first became a Presenter for PBP.¬† It worked for me then when I had no idea what I was doing, haha!! This time around I added the PUSH GOAL – which was still EASY….but now came the HARD PART…..Reverse Engineering your Push Goal!!!!¬† Again, I ve heard her talk about this before, show it on videos and I always RAN to the next task….thinking oh no way!! NO WAY can I do that…really I was telling myself that I wasn’t willing to DISCIPLINE myself to do that!!¬† What is Reverse Engineering – in simple terms….breaking down your Push Goal to EVERY SINGLE TINY STEP you must take to achieve it!! And your goal is to come up with a huge, LONG list of mini tasks…the more the better!! Ahhhhh¬† Well Guess What….I did it!! I MADE MYSELF DO IT!!¬† I went into the dining room, posted the GIANT Poster Size Post It notes on the wall and started writing for probably a good 30 minutes NON STOP!!!¬† Once I was done I thought I was going to feel overwhelmed and think…HOW in the world am I ever going to do all of this????¬† But just the opposite happened…..I felt RELIEF!!¬† I felt a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders because I just spilled every idea, thought, to do list task on paper…every single one of them.¬† I HAD A PLAN…ON PAPER!!!¬† A Plan to Achieve the Biggest Goal of my Personal Career, one that will Change my Family’s Life!!!

Chalene teaches you the HABITS to Success whether Fitness, Nutrition, Relationships or Business!!¬† It is a Life Changing Book!¬† She is REAL, down to earth and you will feel like you are talking to your Best Friend when she takes you through the journey.¬† Can you Discipline yourself to PUSH for 30 days?? Cruisin the Caribbean

If you asked me a year ago if I ever thought I would be on a Caribbean Cruise in 2011, I would have said NO WAY…but WOW has life changed!

I want YOU to know that ANYTHING is possible when you set your Mind to it!!¬† Hardwork, Determination and FOCUS were definitely my Power Words for 2010….I was laid off from my full time job of over 13 yrs at the end of 2009 and instead of falling into a deep depression, I DECIDED this was my Opportunity to work my Business w/ full FOCUS!!¬† You would be surprised how far Goal Setting and Self Help Books will go….A Long Way!!¬† I had a Plan B and I’m so thankful I did…because this is where it led me

I earned a trip for 2 on a 7 Day Caribbean Cruise on the Oasis of the Seas!!¬† Oh yea baby! My hubby couldn’t go because of MMA Training season so I took one of my best friends, Shukria Stewart (APD from Utah).¬† Over 300 Beachbody Coaches were on the boat including 2 of my Coaches: Lisa Koehler and Kristia Hord!¬† I was MORE EXCITED for them to have Earned this trip than I honestly was for myself!!¬† On top of that we met up w/ my Success Partners: Blasi Jacobi, Kristi Fukumoto and my Upline ROCKSTAR Coach – Christine Dwyer & Platinum Presenters Team!!! Not to mention Corporate and staff made the trip as well…..

If you’re thinking, ohhhh it was a Business trip….think AGAIN!! In this Business we don’t know the difference between Work and Play!! And that’s the BEST way to describe my life!! I’m working w/ Positive, Driven People who Love Life and together we are having a BLAST!!!

What did we do? The 3 ports were: Bahamas, St. Thomas & St. Maarten!¬† It was NON STOP Fun: Turbo Kick w/ Chalene Johnsons, Jet Skiing, Dancing everynight!, Private Cocktail Parties, Dressing up for Dinner was fun everyday, Massages, Facials, Shopping it never ended….

What I’ll never forget is the relationships we built together all while setting up our futures…Thank You Beachbody!!

HOW TO Build a Full Time Income as a Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer

Fitness Instructors & Personal Trainers are people who have chosen a career path that they have a GREAT PASSION for!!¬† But WHY does that mean that they have to earn less?¬†¬† One of the questions I get asked all the time is….HOW can I make a Full Time Income as a Group Fitness Instructor/ Personal Trainer either by doing more or supplementing with another area of fitness?

Before I answer that, let me tell you a bit about my history…

Who am I: I’ve been a Group Fitness Instructor for 15 years, a Presenter for Chalene Johnson’s Company for 5 years – Powder Blue Productions – including Turbo Kick, PiYo & Hip Hop Hustle as well as a Continuing Education Provider for ACE & AFAA within those formats.¬† I’ve been a Club Manager for Women’s Fitness Clubs for over 10 years including many different positions: District Management, Group Fitness Director for 9 clubs & Fitness Director in charge of Personal Training.¬† I now have my own home based business: Online Marketing in the Fitness Industry.¬† I share this with you to let you in on my experience in many different areas of Fitness…

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Teaching Group Fitness Classes!!! As do ALL Instructors, we CHOOSE to Motivate everyone in our class to not only get a great workout but to teach them that Fitness can be FUN!!¬† It is the HIGHLIGHT of my day!!¬† And if my body could handle it, I probably would teach full-time…but not only is not good for my body to overtrain but its also not fair to my students to burn out on them & not deliver the BEST CLASS!¬† Instructors teach on average 5-10 classes a week and Personal Trainers are in demand at peak times of the day: mornings, evenings and weekends.¬† Both of these situations explain why it is a CHALLENGE to Build a Full Time Income as an Instructor or Personal Trainer.

In fact, most Instructors & PT’s work full time and do fitness on the side.¬† But so many of us STRIVE to be able to do our PASSION full time!!! So, is it possible?¬† What are the Options?

Options to Make More Income in Fitness:

  • Learning to teach an additional format such as Pilates, Yoga, Turbo Kick, Hip Hop Hustle, PiYo, Strength, Zumba may bring your current hourly rate up (depending on the facility) or give you the opportunity to work more hours as an Instructor!
  • If you are a Group Fitness Instructor, you may consider studying for your Personal Training Certification (or vice versa) Personal Training allows you to work more hours and gives your body a physical break.
  • Club Managers and Owners traditionally make a good salary but they do work long hours due to the responsibility of the staff and team Goals. If you love leading a Team and are a Goal Oriented Individual, this may be of interest to you!
  • Most Fitness Directors teach or train in addition to their required hours to make an additional $5,000-$10,000/yr. to their salary.
  • Becoming a Presenter in your favorite format is another option to add additional income & share with others what you LOVE!!¬† Powder Blue Productions offers a Training called: All Star Presenter Camp to prepare you for becoming a Presenter or just a ROCK STAR Instructor!!

10 Goals for 2011!

If you want to Achieve BIG GOALS in Life, the Best Place to Start is by writing them down….then sharing them!!!¬† My Business Mentor, Chalene Johnson, has taught me how to take what seems like DREAMS and turn them into GOALS you can achieve by simply writing them down!¬† Sound too easy? Well it is!! It’s also easy NOT to do….only 3% of People Actually Write Down their Yearly Goals…I invite you to take 5 minutes and write down the BIGGEST DREAMS you would LOVE to Achieve in 2011, not what you are going to achieve but WHAT would be AMAZING if you did!!! Stretch yourself!!

Write them down in any order 1-10.¬† Then Post them where you can see them everyday….lastly, share it with the people that are most important to you to hold you ACCOUNTABLE…just as I am publicly sharing mine.

My TOP 10 GOALS for 2011: (in no specific order)

1. Business Goals: 10 Star Diamond by Summit (June 2011) and 15 Star Diamond by December 2011.  Hit Success Club 5 Every Month and Qualify for 2011 Trip!

2. Increase weekly income to $3000/week – ($100,000/yr. by year end!!!)

3. Relationships: My Marriage is my #1 Priority! Spend Quality Time w/ my husband and strengthen our relationship by supporting one another personally & professionally.  Vacation this year!!

4. Fitness: Lose 8lbs by the Cruise in March!  Get in the Best Shape of my life by doing a Hybrid of P90X & Insanity!! FOCUS on Nutrition: Plan Ahead & Make it a Priority

5. Attend Live Seminars to Grow in my Profession:

  • Social Media Training – February
  • Beachbody Summitt – June
  • Camp Turbo/Do More – July
  • One Instructor Convention – October

6. Team Building:

  • Help at least 5 Coaches on My Team build their business to DIAMOND STATUS!!
  • Step up as a Leader and Help my team Achieve their Goals
